Go for the last hour of daylight and stay through dusk. The rooftop bar sits above the observation deck, so the evening can continue where the view ends.

Muay Thai at Rajadamnern
The older of the two national stadiums, and the serious one.
Rajadamnern has run since 1945 and the crowd is there for the fight rather than the photograph. Ringside seats are worth the difference; the atmosphere sits in the tiers behind you either way.

The old capital in a day, with the car waiting at each temple.
Ninety minutes north and eight hundred years back. Going privately means arriving at Wat Chaiwatthanaram before the coaches and leaving when the light is right, rather than when a group is called.
Damnoen Saduak and the railway market
The floating market and the market the train runs through.
Both are early starts and both reward it. Maeklong is the one people remember: an entire market that folds itself away as the train passes, then reopens behind it.
